Frequently Asked Questions

What are your services like?

Our worship is a blend of traditional and contemporary styles. Music plays prominently in the worship as we enjoy singing God’s praises. We involve lay people in the worship as worship leaders and readers. We observe moments of prayer, with specific prayer time set aside for the joys and concerns of the congregation and those we love. The sermon is a featured part of our worship. Because Pastor Debora is an energetic preacher, our sermon time tends to be lively and engaging. We are rapidly incorporating multimedia into our worship, which provides an added dimension and appeal to our worship experience.

Worship services begin at 10:00 am and generally last for 75 to 90 minutes. Worship is followed by a time of fellowship and light refreshments. All are welcomed.

Where is your church located?

We are located at 858 Great Plain Avenue in Needham at the corner of Great Plain Avenue and Warren Street. We are one block east of the Town Hall at Needham Center. We are directly across the street from the Charles River YMCA. For Directions click here.

Do you have activities for children?

Yes. Our Sunday school program is called Joyful Noise. It meets from September through June at 9:00 am. The program features Bible Stories and fun music that is truly engaging for children.

We include children in the worship. Our Children’s Choir sings on a monthly basis in the worship. We also give children the opportunity to usher and participate in the worship. In addition, children are provided with activity pages for their use and entertainment during the worship. These pages serve to reinforce the meaning of the message while capturing their attention.

Each August, we host a summer Daily Vacation Bible School program for children ages 4 to entering fifth grade. It is always the highlight of the summer.

Are you like the Southern Baptists?

No. We are a part of the American Baptist Churches USA, which is one of the most diverse Christian denominations in the world today with over 5,500 congregations and 1.3 million members. We are welcoming of all people and personally invite you to be a part of this fellowship.

What kinds of activities do you offer?

We have a number of activities in this church that include monthly movie nights, fellowship dinners and gatherings, Bible and Book study groups, and hands-on mission service works done locally and nationally. Check our Calendar for more information.

How can I get involved?

Just come on in. Attend the worship, speak to the pastor or call the office at (781) 400-5867. You are invited and you are welcomed.

How can I become a member?

As Pastor Debora often says, “The doors of this church are always open”. If you are interested in membership, speak to Pastor Debora or one of the Deacons. It is just that easy. We hold new member orientation classes for those interested in membership. You may join this church by a letter of transfer from another church, by Christian experience or by baptism. Together we can determine what is best for you.

What should I wear to your church?

We do not want anyone to be anxious about what they wear when they come here. Come as you are. Come as you are led. You will see everything from suits to slacks to jeans to even shorts in the summer. We are more interested in you than what you have on.

What if my questions are not answered here?

If your questions are not answered here, feel free to submit a question via Ask a Question. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

What is your congregation like?

We are a small congregation, with approximately 50 worshippers on a Sunday.

We are a multigenerational congregation. We have a majority of seasoned seniors who are our most regular attendees. We also have a growing group of late “Boomers” and early “Gen-Xers”. Although we only have small number of “Millennials” and are looking forward to expanding our outreach to young adults through our music ministry and our Student Ministry that stems from our relationship as a Teaching Parish with Andover Newton Theological School.

We are a diverse congregation. We are proud of our diversity. People of color make up approximately 20% of our congregation.
